The Grief Nest is a private ceremonial container held across three 120-minute sessions. Together, we create space for witness, ritual, remembrance and integration supported by a personalized Grief Nest Ritual Box created for your continued tending between sessions

You do not have to hold everything alone here.
Tending to our grief
As human beings, we have moved far away from the practice of bringing our grief to the altar. We have been taught to hide it, intellectualize it, rush through it, or carry it alone. At Root Mother, we believe that unprocessed grief and stagnant emotion are like a river that has been dammed. When grief is not given movement, witness, or ritual, there is a greater potential for us to remain inside of experiences for far longer than we have to.
Grief is a great time traveler. It can carry us back to the moments when parts of ourselves became frozen, fragmented, abandoned, or lost. Through ritual, we return not to remain in the past, but to alchemize what happened, make peace with what cannot be changed, and call the lost parts of ourselves home.
You are at the threshold…
-
You are often the one others depend upon.
You know how to remain composed. You know how to keep moving, fulfill your responsibilities and carry what needs to be carried…even when something inside you is exhausted from being strong.
Perhaps you are grieving a death, pregnancy loss, relationship, home, identity, family bond or future you once believed would be yours.
Perhaps no single event explains what you feel. Your grief may have accumulated slowly through years of survival, caregiving, displacement, disappointment, loneliness or becoming someone you never imagined you would have to become.
You may appear functional while feeling untethered within.
You may fear that opening the door to your grief will allow everything behind it to overwhelm you.
And still, some part of you already knows:
What has been carried in silence is asking for relationship.
Not to consume your life.
Not to become your identity.
But to be acknowledged, witnessed and given somewhere sacred to belong.
-
Before this work, you may be:
Carrying grief privately while continuing to care for everyone else.
Feeling disconnected from your body, creativity, spiritual life or capacity for joy.
Replaying the past while wishing you could simply put it behind you.
Unsure how to honor what happened without remaining trapped inside it.
Longing for something deeper than advice, analysis or another attempt to think your way through loss.
Through this work, something different may become possible.
You may leave with language for what has felt impossible to name.
You may experience what it is like to be witnessed without being rushed, managed or corrected.
You may begin creating a relationship with grief that includes remembrance, ritual, tenderness and choice.
You may carry home a personal practice that helps you continue tending yourself beyond the session.
You may remember that grief and aliveness do not have to be enemies.
The purpose is not to erase your grief.
It is to help make room for a fuller life around it.
-
The Grief Nest is not a formula, performance or prescribed emotional process.
It is a private, trauma-informed and spiritually grounded sessions shaped around what you are carrying and what feels accessible to you that day.
We begin slowly.
There may be conversation, silence, tea, altar work, writing, sound, breath, gentle movement, plant-spirit meditation, anointing or creative expression.
You will never be required to share every detail of your story. You will not be pushed toward forgiveness, release, closure or emotional catharsis.
Nothing is forced.
You remain in choice throughout the experience.
The intention is to create enough time, safety and ceremonial structure for grief to be met with dignity, without requiring it to disappear.
-
You are moving through:
Death or bereavement
Pregnancy loss, abortion, stillbirth or infertility grief
Heartbreak, divorce or estrangement
Anticipatory grief
Caregiver grief
Loss of home, community or belonging
Identity change or spiritual transition
Grief connected to adoption or family separation
The ending of a dream, role or imagined future
An accumulation of losses that have never had enough witness
An anniversary or threshold you want to honor ceremonially
Ancestral or intergenerational grief that you want to approach with reverence
This work may especially resonate if conventional spaces have felt too clinical, rushed or disconnected from the spiritual dimensions of your experience.
The Grief Nest may not be the right container if:
You are seeking psychotherapy, diagnosis, medical treatment or emergency mental-health support.
You want someone to guarantee that your grief will resolve in one session.
You are currently in an acute crisis that requires immediate or ongoing clinical care.

More than a session a complete container of care
The three-session arc
Each 120-minute session builds upon the one before it while remaining responsive to what is present. There is no rigid curriculum and no expectation that grief will move in a straight line.
01
Arrival and Witness
We name the threshold you are standing within and begin creating the ceremonial container.
This session offers space for your grief to arrive without being hurried, analyzed or made more comfortable for anyone else.
02
Relationship and Ritual
We explore how grief is living within your memories, body, relationships, home and inner world.
Together, we create practices of remembrance, expression or ritual that feel personal rather than prescribed.
03
Integration and Continuation
We gather what has emerged and create a way for the work to continue beyond our sessions.
This is not a ceremony of forced closure. It is an opportunity to honor what has shifted and establish practices for ongoing tending.
The actual journey will respond to you. These themes are guideposts, not requirements.
What becomes possible when grief is given somewhere to belong?
The outcome of the Grief Nest is not that you become a person who no longer grieves.
The invitation is to become a person who no longer has to exile their grief in order to live. To learn the skills to tend to big emotions without being swallowed by them.
Tangibly
You leave with a personal ritual, herbal aftercare, journal prompts and a clearer understanding of how to tend yourself in the days ahead.
Emotionally
You may feel less alone with what you carry and more able to approach your grief without immediately shutting down, intellectualizing it or becoming consumed by it.
In your relationship with yourself
You may begin trusting that your emotional depth is not a burden or a personal failure.
Your sensitivity may become something you can relate to with tenderness rather than shame.
In your relationship with the past
The ghosts of what has been silenced do not have to remain unnamed.
What happened will always be part of your story, but it does not have to silently govern every chapter that follows.
In your lineage
You may begin remembering grief as something humans have historically tended through witness, land, water, song, altar, gathering and ceremony not only something an individual is expected to process alone.
Grief belongs in the village.
The Grief Nest is part of a larger remembrance.
A remembrance that grief is not evidence that something has gone wrong within us.
A remembrance that mourning has always had communal, spiritual, creative and ceremonial dimensions.
A remembrance that our ancestors did not always grieve behind closed doors, alone and ashamed of how long it was taking.
This work exists because modern life often gives us no altar, no village and no shared language for loss. We are expected to keep working, remain productive and quietly contain the impact of what has changed us.
Rootmother is helping restore another possibility:
A culture in which grief is witnessed.
Care is relational.
Rest is worthy.
The dead are remembered.
Transitions are marked.
And no one is required to abandon parts of herself in order to belong.
Why I Built the Grief Nest
Because I know what it means to carry grief without a map.
My relationship with grief has been shaped by adoption, pregnancy loss, displacement, death of lovers, friends, survival of dv and sa, identity transition and the many endings that do not always receive public recognition.
I know what it is to keep moving while the inner world is asking to be tended.
I also know that grief is not only an emotional event. It can touch our bodies, relationships, spiritual lives, creativity, sense of belonging and understanding of the future.
I created the Grief Nest because I wanted there to be a place where grief could be approached with beauty, dignity and spaciousness
A place where plants, ritual, silence, ancestry and creativity could sit beside conversation.
A place where you would not be treated as broken.
A place where you would not have to earn the right to receive care by first reaching a breaking point.
This offering exists because grief deserves more than endurance.
And so do you.

I hold grief as a sacred threshold, something that is not meant to be rushed, fixed, pathologized, or carried alone.
My role is not to take grief away, but to help create a vessel strong enough for it to move. I tend the waters of the emotional body with reverence, patience, and deep listening, honoring the truth that grief has its own timing, intelligence, and alchemical process.
My work weaves together ritual grief tending, folk herbalism, plant spirit medicine, shadow work, ancestral connection, and guided inner landscape journeying. The plants are not simply tools within this work. They are companions, witnesses, teachers, and plantcestors who have walked beside human beings through loss, transition, death, birth, rupture, and rebirth for millennia.
Within the Grief Nest, we may work with tea, smoke, oils, baths, flower essences, prayer, sound, altar tending, and plant-guided meditation. These practices help us soften what has become hardened, bring movement to what has stagnated, and listen for what the grief itself is asking us to remember.
Grief often carries us into the inner landscapes of the self to the places where lost parts, forgotten gifts, ancestral stories, buried emotions, and unfinished experiences may still be waiting. I hold space for you to journey inward, meet what is there, and return with the wisdom, medicine, and pieces of yourself that are ready to come home.
This work honors wholeness. You are not broken because you are grieving. Your grief is not proof that something is wrong with you. It is evidence that you have loved, lived, lost, survived, and been changed.
Through ceremony, grief becomes more than something we endure. It can become a portal for remembrance, reconciliation, transformation, and the reclamation of what was once lost.
꩜ Client Reviews ꩜
"I've been enjoying using a yoni steam (I made one about a week after we spoke). It's helped create a safe and nurturing ritual to celebrate and give thanks to all that my body does.
Mugwort has felt like a crone/child spirit that has helped me to confront my past womb traumas. I've felt this presence of a healing crone woman who guides me to confront the importance of solid boundaries, and a child-like presence that brings delight and celebration of the sacredness of the body.
This session was much needed. It offered an opportunity to confront some much needed healing that otherwise I don't know if I would have confronted. And the use of mugwort, the yoni steam, rose, has brought comfort and wisdom along the path.
Thank you for doing what you do!"

"I feel like the session has been infusing… first of all it was such a great eye opener with regards to how sensitive my nervous system is and how this has to be my main health focus (checking how my nerves are and softening back into relaxed mode). I've made the rose oil but haven't used it yet, it's been infusing and it took me some time to make. I'll be able to use it soon. I sourced gorgeous rose buds, and have been drinking the tea as well. Not every day but whenever I felt the need or calling. I also introduced some friends to the rose, we drank the tea together, it was their first time drinking rose tea and they found it really pleasing. One major thing that has happened since our session is that I launched my herbal business - I found the strength to reveal myself, put myself naked in front of all. I feel my boundaries have greatly strengthened. I don't feel as vulnerable as I did a few months ago when we had our session. I have the rose and yourself to thank for this."

You do not need to justify your need for support.
You do not need to arrive ready to release the past.
You only need to recognize that something within you is asking for care.
You are worthy of being witnessed.
You are worthy of a space where you do not have to be the strong one.
You are worthy of remembering your ancestral relationship to grief—and of inhabiting a full, whole and embodied life where sorrow can be honored without becoming the only voice shaping your future.
